Influence

Judges 2:18-23. There is a cycle described in Judges where the Israelites apostatise, suffer, repent, and become restored. This is all in the context of covenant. When I look at what God is trying to do, it seems a bit controlling at first glance. God is willing to do all sorts of things to get Israel to be loyal to him. But when you think about it, God needs to prepare a group of people to be the context of his Son’s first coming. I’m not sure why God needs this, but that is how I make sense of the Old Testament.

God has a desire to prepare another group of people today. I don’t understand everything about this group but I know I want to be a part of it. I also want others to be able to be a part of it. The judges had a good influence on the Israelites, I can too in my modern context. God has called all Christians to be an influence in favour of loyalty to himself, do I have such an influence?
